Many of you might have missed the Mayor’s Town Hall Meeting on MUNI. You can read about it at the N Judah blog or at the Chronicle.
However, there are 2 big questions, one Central Subway related, one N-Judah related that didn’t make it into the mix that we sure could use some answers for:
-Right now, as far as I can tell, there is no push to order more cars so that when the Central Subway opens up, MUNI will have enough rail cars to serve the new line and the existing ones. Given that the maker of these cars, Breda has been proven to be unreliable (Google “Breda” and “Boston” and “MBTA” and you’ll see what I mean), how can we be assured there will be enough cars to service all lines properly?
-Residents of the Inner Sunset who walk along Judah or Irving see daily the hazards of left-turning MUNI rail cars as they interact with cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists. A promise was made by MUNI to install scramble signals to improve safety for everyone and speed up MUNI, but it hasn’t happened. Can someone let us know what is going on?
I think it’s great that Mayor Newsom has opened up his site so that these kinds of questions that help form policy can be asked to the experts! Thanks!
